Dealing With Anorexia At Summer Camp…?
Posted by: Alan in Anorexia Recovery Diet, tags: Anorexia, Camp..., Dealing, Summer, With
Summer camp for me is in 2 weeks and I am recovering from anorexia(:
I think I’m almost to my goal weight,maybe 2 or 3 pounds till I reach it (i’m 5′8″ and about 116/117 lbs)
anyways, right now my meal plan consists of 3 meals and 4 ensure pluses everyday. (one ensure plus has 350 calories.)
How will I deal with recovery at camp? It’s an overnight camp, weeklong, and I’ll be in charge of all of my meals.
How can I deal?

Okaii, well you have two choices.
One: Dont go. You are recovering this summer and need to focus on that and maybe do camp next year.
Two: Go. MAybe get intouch with the organisers explain everything to them and see if they can help you with planning your meals. You copuld take your ‘pluses’ with you, so you know you have them and can eat them. Also are your friends going? can they help you? Maybe make a meal plan you can all flollow and help in the preperation of.
Good luck, i hope recovery goes well.

Just remind yourself to eat all the provided meals at the camp. And if you or your parents think you should continue with the ensures a few times a day have your parent (or guardian) contact the summer camp and have it ok’d for you to bring private food in.
If you have a friend that is also going to camp, ask them for help to continue your new meal plan.
Remember to have fun.
Remember to snack.

I think if your parent calls the camp and tells them that you need the ensure for health reasons, they don’t need to mention that you are recovering from an eating disorder, they can almost just say that you were underweight and the doctor wants you to have the extra calories.I really don’t think the camp will reject to that, you would have to bring your own ensures to camp and they would keep them for you but I don’t think they would say no. You will have 3 square meals a day at camp so you shouldn’t have to worry about that. My only tip is to remember to eat but that shouldn’t be too hard because you are in the dining hall with food in front of you. Try not to get distracted by singing songs and taking to friends during meal times.
Don’t not go to camp because you are worried about recovering. Camp is great for you and missing out would probably be harder on your body and mind then just going. Your going to have a lot of fun and be with friends and hopefully that will distract you from whatever feelings you were having that made you become anorexic.
Have a great time,
Hope that helps!
