I am in recovery from an eating disorder and I need to gain some weight…but I want to do it at a slow and steady rate. For about 8 months I was eating anywhere from 0 to 600 calories a day. I have been at 1000 calories a day now for the last two weeks. Here is an example of what I eat during a day:
- Breakfast: 2 pieces whole wheat bread, 1 tbsp almond butter
- Snack: Apple
- Lunch: 1 whole wheat bagel, 1/2 tbsp light cream cheese, 1/2 cup cucumber slices
- Snack: Banana
- Dinner: Salad (lettuce, cucumber, peppers etc), tofu, 1/2 tbsp dressing
- Snack: Ensure high protein meal replacement
Total: 972 calories, 28g fat, 40g protein
What do you guys think of this meal plan? Is it healthy? Sometimes I have cottage cheese or yogurt for lunch instead of the bagel.
Thanks :)

Yep, that sounds good and healthy. Be sure to gradually increase your calorie intake until you can get it up to at least 1200. :)

This sounds like an excellent diet! You are making some healthy choices in what you eat, and I applaud your recovery!
However, you might want to include some more calcium. Calcium is an essential nutrient, and you need to work on building up your bone mass. Try having a glass or two of whole milk during the day. It’s good for you, and will probably add an extra 300-500 calories to your diet, which is a quick way to add some extra calories. Good Luck!

its ok for now but like in a few weeks i would add 200 calories to the plan and keep adding 200 every few weeks till you get to the amount of calories your supposed to eat in a day.
but i would add meat or chicken or fish for lunch

when you feel a bit better add some peanut butter to you bread. Its full of healthy fats and will keep you feeling energised.
good luck and well done! xxxxxxxxxxx

I suggest seeing a dietitian. They can really give you the whole picture what your body needs for nutrition.

i was underweight too but i saw a nutritionist…THOSE FOODS WILL MAKE U LOSE MORE WEIGHT!!! U NEED AROUND 3600 CALLORIES…UR STILL IN AN ANOREXIC DIET!!!!
u need to eat MORE CALORIES THEN U BURN TO GAIN WEIGHT…EAT MORE OF THESE TYPES OF SNACKS/FOODS …
    -Lean meats
-complex carbs(oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat bread/pasta, some cereals)
    -peanut butter or other nuts
-”proto pure” protein bars….each has 300 calories and 32 g protein but are low fat(7-8g), ok carb(around 26), very low sugar(1g), very healthy and delicious…i like the chewy chocolate chip and chocolate deluxe..or the regular “pure” protein bars but they are smaller and only have around 180-200 calories and 20 grams of protein
    -loose granola
-dried fruit(especially raisins)-instead of fresh fruit
    -muesli
-potatoes and corn instead of greens
-drink BOOST PLUS and ensure plus(the chocolate is the best) they have 350-360 calories each and have alot of vitamins, healthy fats, and the carbs u need…look them up…there is a difference between the regular and the plus…
    -milk/other dairy products
    -beans/seeds
U HAVE 2 MAKE SURE U DONT BURN WHAT U EAT AND HAVE A HEALTHY SNACK BEFORE BED LIKE A PB&J SANDWICH AND A GLASS OF CHOCOLATE MILK or boost plus

WooHoo! LoL. I’m sooo glad to hear that you are recovering from anorexia! LoL. I don’t even know you. Haha. Anywho….
This thing: Total: 972 calories, 28g fat, 40g protein
To me isn’t important the only thing on that thing that is important is fat and protein. So the new and improved bar should look like this.
    Total: 28g fat, 40g protein
Notice how I cut out the calories.Cause that is what soooo many people worry about now.Which causes them to count out cereal in a cereal box.You know how it says serving size about 40 pieces of cereal.( For example)Well my friend was in that stage and we were having a sleepover and we were having breakfast. And I caught her counting out pieces of cereal.I was sooo mad I said , ” What are you doing Lina!!!”. She said ” Counting cereal of course. To watch my weight.”. And I said ” For God’s sake you don’t need to watch your wait! You run Summer track and workout constantly!”. Then I took the bowl of cereal dumped it in the trash and poured a new one for her.You know how I poured it I closed my eyes and counted to 7 then opened my eyes and stopped pouring it.Then I poured milk in it and handed it to her.She was shocked and mad with what I just did.Looked like she was about to cry.She did.She told me she was watching her weight and yada yada yada.I told her some stuff. She smiled and stopped all the calorie counting nonsense. Now she eats what she wants when she wants it.And her new boyfriend says she stills has a smoking hot body even though she has a big appetite. And I smiled, Tough Love.Hopefully that story opened your eyes a bit if not, oh well.I always have fun telling it.Good Luck! You rock for recovering!!! Good Luck!

To the people that keep insisting ALL people need 2000 calories, you clearly are just another lazy *** who relies on the government to tell you what to eat. Women should not eat as much as men, for the most part, considering our metabolisms are slower and we have less mass to fuel. It only makes sense.
But anyways, girl, I am in the same boat as you. It is tough. Try eating more vegetables and mix up breakfast with oatmeal. Peanut butter is a GREAT option to add, as well as avocadoes and trail mix. After sticking to your 1000 calorie/day plan for a month, aim for 1200-1300. That is a healthy amount. 1500 wouldnt hurt you either. If you are eating healthy and using portion control, you should eventually stop counting calories obsessively. That was my hardest habit to break. I still do it time to time, but it gets easier eventually. Hope everything works out well for you! =)
