Ok, so i am in this partial hospitalization program for anorexia recovery. Right now, i am 5′4, 17 years old and 81lbs (i gained a pound this week! which is good, i guess). Anyways, the doctors there want me to reach around 100-105lbs and they see this as an ideal weight. However, i have always been very thin (i have never weighed over 87lbs– i continued to grow in height, but failed to gain weight). The idea of weighing 100 lbs really kind of scares me, but i want to get out of this program so i can go back to school and have my normal life again. I also know in my heart that i need to gain weight, but 20lbs seems like so much. Is 100-105 still thin for my height and age? The idea of gaining 20lbs scares me, and im afraid i will look and feel totally different. I am just really dreading it, because the doctors expect me to gain 1-3lbs a week, (they give you meal plans and calorie increases, but it seems like some of the girls in the program have to eat a ridiculous amount of food) or i will have to go inpatient. Can anyone help me calm down? I’m feeling really anxious and uneasy about all this

Don’t be scared of gaining this weight.
Be scared of dying if you don’t.
Think of it as gaining time to live and enjoy the wonderful things this life has to offer you — and all the amazing experiences you are going to have and things you are going to learn. That’s what you’re gaining.
What I’m saying is, re-frame the way you are looking at this picture.

you can do it girl, you could use some meat in your bones, yeah skinny girls are cute and can fit anything, but they are weak, unhealthy, go for 105, you will look better, just do like yoga or anything to keep you toned and in shape, but dont over do an excercise babe because you want to gain weight and feel like your 81 pounds, plus more boys will like you when you are 105, just do it

This is a very complex disease. It requires constant monitoring of your progress. You have to focus on your recovery. Its your mind they and you have to change. Also because you are young your metabolic rate is high. You need more food to gain weight because it burns off faster than when you get older.

i’ve been in your situation. i know what kind of anxiety your feeling. i had to gain almost 30 pounds. but just so you know if you are 5′4” and 100 pounds- you still will be very thin. an average weight for your height is 120! so even if you don’t feel like you will at first, you will actually look better with an extra 20 pounds. even if it seems like everyone is obsessed with being thin, people really are the most attractive to people who look HEALTHY. and by healthy i dont mean fat, not at all. just trust me when i say you will be a healthier, happier, better-looking person. try not looking in the mirror so much, no need to feed your anxietys that way, ya know? hope i helped at least a little..

My sister went through it and is now a healthy weight. She looks wonderful now and NOT fat. She has no more problems finding clothes that fit now. Remember that most guys really do not like underweight girls. Most like girls with a figure that look healthy. On the nice side you will probably see your breast size increase as you gain weight also which the guys really like! Relax and just take it one day at a time. Also go to the site called imdb.com and look at some of the most popular actresses or look at one of the sexiest women list and go find their weights.

Hi. Im really sorry. Im also going through recovery, except I’m heavier than you (around 112, but its not healthy for my body type as Im muscular with a low % body fat..im cold all the time etc).Im 5′4.
Anyway, I cant seem to accept AND embrace weight gain. Im terrified. Its almost like if I gain weight I’ll have a sense of ‘out of control’ feeling. Im scared. Very very scared..like I’ll keep gaining. At the moment my weight is going up and down because as soon as I gain a few, it goes back down after a week cos I stop eating as much. In the past month I have been 110, 114, 116 and now Im back to 112. And its not water weight as I tend not to fluctuate.
anyway i wish you the best of luck.
